Executive Board

  • Jess Elias, President

Jess Elias (she/her). Jess is the Community Learning Supervisor at the Central Library in Copley Square. She has been with BPL since June 2014. She is focused on how our union can push for a positive workplace culture by prioritizing meaningful opportunities for staff and community, and ways to invest in staff well-being and training.

  • Allison Hahn, Vice-President

Allison (she/her) is the Children’s Librarian at the Brighton Branch Library. She has been with BPL since August 2018. She inherited her passion for union work from her mother, a proud member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. One of her goals as VP is to help everyone feel invested in their union and their work.

  • Bryce Kieren Healy, Chief Steward

Bryce Kieren Healy (he/him) is a Cataloger & Classifier Librarian in the Technical Services Department at the Central Branch. He has been with BPL since April 2014. Bryce sees unions as a way for workers to push back against exploitation and as a way to have a say in how the workplace is governed.

  • Puck Malamud, Secretary

Puck (ve/ver/vis/verself or they/them/theirs/themself) is a Cataloger and Classifier at the Central Branch. Puck has been with BPL since April 2020. BPL is vis first unionized workplace and it is night and day from vis previous jobs. Ve is passionate about protecting and expanding union benefits.

  • Jay Levins, Treasurer

Jay (he/him) is the Branch Librarian at the Charlestown Branch Library. Jay has been with BPL since 2011. He is also a second generation BPL librarian! He wants all the PSA members to be able to do their jobs without the fear of not being able to pay their bills or keep a roof over their head! Not too much to ask, right?

  • Ben Barber, Central Representative

Ben (he/him) is the Digital Repository Developer at the Central Branch in Copley Square. He’s been with BPL since December 2018. His core beliefs about not only being in a union, but participating in its actions/processes, especially in the current climate, are what drove him to get involved.

  • Michael Brown, Central Representative

Michael (he/they) is a Community Learning Reference and Workforce Development librarian. He has been with BPL since May 2023. Coming from the south where there are no unions and having to struggle to be heard left a mark on them. They want to continue to fight the good fight in a way that helps others who are like them be seen.

  • Madeleine Wright, Interim Central Representative

Madeleine (she/they) is an Early Literacy Children's Librarian in the Children’s Room at the Centra. Library in Copley Square. She has been with BPL since May 2023. She became interested in labor organizing when she was in college. The pandemic really drove home for her that bosses aren't going to look out for workers. She believes that the only way to have a better workplace (and a better world) is through solidarity.

  • Kathleen Clifford, Branch Representative

Kathleen (she/they) is the Programs and Outreach Librarian at the South Boston Branch. She has been with BPL since June 2014. When her mom was let go, Kathleen saw firsthand how the union could fight back and get her mom’s job back! They’ve seen how working together for better conditions can be transformative and wants to contribute to that work.

  • Jackie Hincapie, Branch Representative

Jackie (she/her) is the Generalist at the Adams Street branch. She has been with BPL since October 2020. Jackie decided to volunteer to be on the board and bargaining team because she believe the best way to serve our communities is to ensure that our staff feels supported.

  • Amy Layton, Branch Representative

Amy (she/her) is the Generalist Librarian at the Parker Hill Branch Library. She has been with BPL since December 2021. The daughter of a unionized kindergarten teacher, she saw how her mom’s union's efforts paid off. She’s excited to be present for my fellow co-workers in the same way.

  • Christopher Strunk, Past-President

Christopher Strunk (he/him) is the Children’s Librarian at the Codman Square Branch. He has been with BPL since October 2000. Chris believes that the only way to make Boston Public Library better for both our union's members and our patrons is through solidarity.
